Portland State Men's Basketball 2015-16 Preseason Poll
The Portland State Vikings have been picked as middle-of-the-pack finishers in the Big Sky Conference preseason men’s basketball polls released today. League coaches have picked the Vikings to place sixth, while league media has picked the Vikings seventh.

Weber State was picked number one in the coaches poll, followed by Montana. Montana took top honors in the media poll, followed by Weber State. Defending tournament champion Eastern Washington was tabbed to finish third in both polls.

PSU comes off a 15-14 season in 2014-15. The Vikings were 9-9, placing sixth in the Big Sky Conference. Head Coach Tyler Geving returns for his seventh season on the Park Blocks. He has five returning letterwinners, three returning starters and two returning redshirts in 2015-16.

Leading the Vikings in the coming season will be Braxton Tucker (6-6, JR, F, 11.5 ppg, 5.3 rpg, .500 FG%), Collin Spickerman(6-8, SR, C, 4.4 ppg, 4.3 rpg, school-record 2.5 bpg), Bryce White (6-5, JR, G, 9.5 ppg, 4.1 rpg) and Zach Gengler (6-2, JR, G, 4.6 ppg, 2.5 rpg). Those four players had a combined 63 starts last season.

Geving expects three four-year transfers to have a big impact for the Vikings. They include Calaen Robinson (6-2, JR, G, Arizona State), Cameron Forte (6-7, GR, F, Georgia) and Donivine Stewart (6-0, GR, G, SIUE). Robinson was a redshirt last season, while Forte and Stewart both received degrees from their previous institutions and have one year of eligibility remaining.

Other important newcomers include Evan Garrison (JR, 5-10, Clark College), De’Sean Parsons (JR, 6-7, Salt Lake CC), Khari Holloway (JR, 6-2, Mesa CC), Isaiah Pineiro (SO, 6-6, Sierra JC) and Armani Collins (FR, 6-5, Stuart Hall (CA) HS).

Portland State has had back-to-back winning seasons (17-15 in 2013-14, 15-14 in 2014-15) and this year will try to make it three straight winning seasons for the first time since 2006-09.

PSU opens its fall practice on Friday afternoon at the Stott Center. The Vikings have an exhibition game against Lewis and Clark on Nov. 6. The first counting game is Nov. 13 at WAC member Grand Canyon. Big Sky Conference play opens Jan. 2.

For the first time ever, the Big Sky Conference Tournament will go to a neutral site in 2015-16. All 12 teams will participate when the tournament runs Mar. 8-12 in Reno, NV. The Big Sky will have media day festivities for basketball on Monday, Oct. 5 in Reno.
