Portland State Football Carlos Martin RB Commitment

An under-the-radar running back from a community located in northwest Orange County, Calif. that rushed for almost 1,500 yards as a senior has committed to Portland State.

Carlos Martin, a 5-foot-10, 200-pound ball carrier with 4.5 speed from La Habra (CA) High School, committed to the Vikings on his official visit to the school during the weekend of Jan. 17-18,, a website covering high football in Orange County reported after speaking to Martin’s step-father.

Recruiting services and likewise reported Martin’s verbal commitment to Portland State.

Martin rushed for 1,425 yards last fall for the Highlanders and was named Freeway League Offensive Player of the Year. He rushed for 1,156 yards as a junior at La Habra High in 2013.

Martin’s commitment – he will presumably sign his letter of intent on National Signing Day next Wednesday – adds to the Vikings’ stockpile of running backs for the 2015 season. Steven Long (605 yards), Nate Tago (354) and Rey Vega (49) all return to Portland State’s offense in 2015.

Martin attracted interest from California, Sacramento State (offer), Northern Arizona (offer), Montana, San Jose State, Cal Poly and UC Davis before committing to Portland State about 10 days ago.

Martin was offered by the Vikings in November. La Habra High posted on Nov. 4, 2014, on its official Twitter feed that Martin had been offered by Portland State.

Martin took an unofficial visit to Cal and participated in San Jose State’s Junior Day last April, said.
